robert mugabe
The Zimbabwean peoples’ hope of ousting Dictator-President Robert Mugabe is on the tenterhooks as the elections have a strong possibility of being rigged or even worse being declared null and void. This, comes as poll results are taking an unusually large time to be declared amidst rising skepticism and fears of manipulation by Robert Mugabe’s Zanu party. Currently, Zimbabwe’s key opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change(MDC) led the Zanu party, 35 to 31 seats. This, in itself is very alarming as the MDF was expected to steamroll the Zanu party and clinch the polls. Very unusual, simply because the majority of the Zimbabwean people were dead against the extremely repressive Robert Mugabe government and also because the exit polls clearly predicted an overwhelming majority for the MDF.

Now, this seemingly close battle between the MDF and the Zanu party is throwing all predictions out of the house with the Zimbabwean people very afraid that Robert Mugabe might even declare martial law. If that happens, Zimbabwe could see mass violence and mayhem as it’s people are already getting restive about the polls being rigged. Though countries like the United States and the United Kingdom urging the election results to be declared as soon as possible, the Zimbabwean election commission says that it will take a further two days for results to be announced. An ominous sign though, is of Robert Mugabe’s cutout being smeared with yellow paint, very reminiscent of fellow dictator Saddam’s ouster. Only the coming days will tell what exactly happens in Zimbabwe and whether the dictator Robert Mugabe gracefully withdraws or gets booted out unceremoniously by his own people.
