Zimbabwe serious in penalizing poll cheaters

Zimbabwe is determined to create a dramatic impact in the way it will hold elections this time. Riggers will experience a lash in the back once they are caught. After many years of being martyrs in President Robert Mugabe’s white elephant leadership, Harare is now bound for change. Such serious motive to eliminate cheaters in the upcoming elections is seen as Zimbabwe’s opposition is at the forefront to barricade all efforts of the incumbent president to push his winning even if the people will not vote for him. Cash rewards await those who have hard evidence of possible anomalies in the precincts of the Saturday’s elections. More than the price of providing information of the possible rigging in Zimbabwe polls, I believe it is the duty of every citizen in Harare to guard their votes so as to create a unified body toward the proclamation of who the candidates they voted for. Mugabe losing his popularity will surely use his machinery to influence the masses to vote for him. The huge amount of $5,000 (£2,500) as reward to the first 40 whistleblowers of poll cheats will make the people vigilant in every election stations and be watchful of irregularities. This money is large enough compared to the 150,000 percent inflation the country has experienced in many years where an average salary of a regular worker for a month is only £3. Zimbabwe Democracy Now, the organization sponsoring the rewards for whistleblowers, can ultimately help in reducing violence and rigging in Zimbabwe. Offenses in the watchlist include vote-buying, multiple voting in different stations, ghost voting, vote bribery and coercion to write a candidate’s name out of the voter’s own volition. The ad to eradicate rigging is a means to keep honest and fair elections in Zimbabwe. Stories of long sufferings and too much inhumane treatment have been scattered all over Harare. All locals are praying for changes to happen and live a better life. Zimbabwe is looking forward to any of the opposition contenders to win. Morgan Tsvangirai, the popular leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, is a promising candidate. Simba Makoni, another strong candidate for presidency is making waves to be the next highest leader of Zimbabwe.
