Even after national elections, there seems to be no end in sight to the terror rule of Mugabe in Zimbabwe. With speculations doing rounds that Movement for Democratic change has won the elections, the youth gang of Mugabe’s ZANU-PF have unleashed worst round of terror on opposition supporters and workers. The injured, abused and battered people have taken refuge at Harvest House the opposition HQ. The results of election are yet to be declared.
The tales of terror will continue to haunt the generations of workers who had boldly supported their leader Morgan Tsvangirai in hope of democracy in the land. More than 300 opposition workers and their families have been singled out and terrorized. Their homes have been burnt. Their wives and children have been abused and rendered injured and homeless. The gangs of Mugabe’s ZANU-PF are doing rounds of Zimbabwe’s countryside indentifying opposition workers and carrying out unthinkable atrocities. A widow was stripped and beaten on buttocks. Later her hand was broken. Another woman who saw her husband being carried away was beaten with motorcycle chain and left unconscious. The husband is still missing. The horror tales and bleeding victims are filling up the camp at Harvest house. Harvest house is crammed with people. A fear stalks them everywhere they go and they are forever under threat. There is no security if ZANU-PF gang members attack. Most of the leaders including Morgan Tsvangirai are touring other countries of Africa gathering support for their party and their democratic cause. No international human rights interventions are in place either.
Why these terrors after votes have been cast? After being in power for 28 years Mugabe will not let go reins so easily. ZANU-PF is retaliating in anger knowing very well they don’t have people’s mandate. What they are trying to achieve is to try and buy opposition sell-outs by money and muscle power. Mugabe has to strike a deal to survive. It’ll be a very long and painful birth of democratic Zimbabwe if Mugabe loses and his terror ways will haunt future generations of the country.
