Will China oust USA’s super-power status? At least The Independent thinks so.
The two key points for considering China to be the world’s new super-power are the issues of ’sovereign funds’ and China’s cheap outsourcing abilities. The ’sovereign funds’ refer to unimaginably large amounts of state controlled cash which will be pumped into Britain’s economy. Britain is the only nation apart from Hong Kong where the Chinese government will allow investment. Come February 7, the Chinese New Year, the British financial markets will be flush with Chinese money. Colonialism has come full circle. Once the British stole money from China, now the Chinese are going to pump money into Britain. This will lead to the invariable devaluation of the Pound.
China’s becoming the next super-power poses new challenges for both the world at large and South East Asia.
India needs to be weary. China becoming stronger signals more disputes regarding Indo-China borders. Already China’s scurry for resetting of borders in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are matters of worry for India.
The Tibetan cause will suffer a death-blow. Already the Dalai Lama is isolated. When China becomes a super-power, then hardly any country will dare to oppose Chinese despotism in Tibet.
Human Rights activists tell of China’s appalling human rights’ records. The authoritarian regime in China will become more ruthless, clamping down every kind of rebellion. Religious movement will suffer and no outside force will have any say into these matters. In other words, China will become a tyranny.
What frightens us most is the heady mixture of a closed command economy and rapid globalisation. China’s willingness to sacrifice Marxist ideals for global wealth shows her readiness to go to any lengths to create a Neo-Imperialist world order.
As a caveat it must be added, that sports pundits are worried that erstwhile poor Chinese players will take home most medals in the forthcoming Olympic Games. Now that is taking things too far.
