The violence against women and girls is human rights problem throughout the world and it is widespread in the countries that are attempting to recover from conflicts and war. Rape and other forms of sexual abuse is very general practice in such countries.
Without naming any country, U.N Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said,
Violence against women has reached hideous and pandemic proportions in some societies attempting to recover from conflict. Rape and other forms of sexual abuse, as well as all other forms of violence,... remain pervasive, and in some situations have become systematic, and have reached appalling levels of atrocity.
Despite the UN’s declaration on the eradication of the violence against women, the condition of women is worse in the countries like Congo and Darfur.
In the situation of War, the women are used as the weapon of war which often makes them victims of the war despite their minimum involvement in the enmity. In different parts of the world, it is seen, in the conflict between two groups or communities, the women of both groups have been raped, beaten and captured to work as slave by the opposite community. In totality, the women in these foreign military occupied countries face rape, abuse, even death because they are considered as the enemy and therefore judged as of no human worth.
If this matter has not been taken seriously with urgency, thousands of women and girls will continue to die. All governments, parliaments, international organizations and civic groups should join hands to pursue worldwide campaign on violence against women and girls. The Women’s participation should increase in reconstruction and rebuilding of societies.
