U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon provided support to President George W. Bush on the Iraq situation on Tuesday, saying that ‘violence’ is a global concern, according to a Reuters report.
Bush welcomed Ban at the White House. The U.N. head was enthusiastic towards President Bush’s plan to hold an advanced conference on the peace process in Middle East during autumn.

Ban was quoted as saying -
As for the Iraqi situation, this is the problem of the whole world.
He has promised Bush assistance from the UN in the effort to improve the political, social and economic conditions of Iraq.
Ban’s support towards Bush’s standpoint regarding Iraq has come at a very crucial moment. The mounting disappointment of the American masses with the Iraq war is getting worse by day. Additionally, Bush is also facing an increasing demand even from within his own Republican Party for the extraction of the US forces from Iraq.
The meeting took place on Tuesday. On Monday, Ban had advised against an ‘abrupt withdrawal’ of the US forces from Iraq. He had argued that the global neighborhood should not discard the Iraqi people. This has astonished some U.N. officials for including himself into the U.S. dispute over the Iraq war.
Bush and Ban also discussed Climate Change in the meeting. Reportedly, Ban has asked Bush to take part in a seminar on the environment that he has summoned for September along with the annual U.N. General Assembly. According to a White House spokesman, Bush is looking forward to be present at the September event.
Situations suggest that Bush is gaining renewed confidence in keeping his hold on Iraq. One would how much social, economic, and political development has been achieved till date, which can prompt support from the UN to continue the stay of the US forces in Iraq.
