flood in sudan

Rain seems to be having its honeymoon this year. Incessant rains in and around Sudan have devastated the land and its people. UN comes forward to provide relief to the battered African nation.

Sudan is battling with incessant rains resulting in flash floods. Africa’s largest country that was so far suffering from political crisis and drought is now battling floods. It seems climate has already changed in Sudan, with global warming pushing the nation on the death door. Severe droughts followed by devastating floods have marginalized any relief efforts with most of the Sudanese left without a shelter. Scorched earth of the country has now given way to flooded land, streets, homes and what not.

The misery of the people already suffering under civil war and drought has been doubled with dramatic climate change. Drought and famine have already taken the life out of the Sudanese, and now with ceaseless rains, the story becomes more tragic. There is no place to live, nothing to eat or drink. The fear of disease is also hovering.

The UN has come forward to mitigate the misery of the people of Sudan. It has sanctioned $5 million from a humanitarian relief fund to provide food, shelter and medicine to the victims of massive flooding.

Many of the Sudanese were already uprooted from their habitats because of the war and drought. With massive flooding, their miseries don’t seem to end. The people of Sudan are in urgent need of relief.
