There have been numerous cases in the history of United States that many senior personnel hold high and esteemed chairs in big organization have been left no choice but to resign after their personal affairs have come to surface. This time it is Mark W. Everson, the former CEO and President of the Red Cross, a humanitarian organization that assists people in time of emergency, disasters and also education in the country.
Everson was elected by the Red Cross Board on April 18, 2007 and his services were effective from May 29, 2007. The board demanded a resignation from him after it came to know about the relationship Everson was having with a subordinate employee. Everson, who is not only married but also has two children. The board took this as a misconduct on his part to engage in this affair. It considers Everson of not having the wisdom to run the organization.
There was another incident when Bernadine Healy had to resign because of some misuse of funds that was intended for the victims of September 11 terrorist attacks. She was also blamed for not having the foresight as to need of blood and collecting excess blood that had to be thrown out. This seems like a good enough cause for Healy to resign.
Though Everson, while resigning from this high-paying job, seems to have stated the reasons are absolutely personal and family related, the whole world seems to have known of it already. Now, how can it be related with some one’s professional life, that he was having an affair with a colleague. One reason might be so that it may affect his work, but come on we can just throw someone out on some doubt. But, this seems to have been true for most organization in the US.
Either you be inconspicuous and hid your relations well, or get thrown out, choice is yours.
