Poland is thinking twice before committing itself in hosting a US anti-missile defense system on its territory. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski said,
The new Warsaw government was not prepared to accept US plans to deploy part of its anti ballistic missile shield in Poland until all costs and risks were considered. This is an American, not a Polish project. We feel no threat from Iran.
However, the pervious Polish government led by Jaroslaw Kaczynski has agreed to deploy several interceptors on Polish ground without investigating about actual need, cost, maintenance and the risks to the country’s security. The new Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wants to analyze every aspect of the deal.
For this purpose, he also plans to discuss the issue with the Russian side during his visit to Moscow next month. Russia is strongly against such an installation, which it says, threatens its security. Russia says that US anti-missile shield is a threat to global security as could lead to another arms race.
The interest of the US?
The U.S. Government is propagating about the threats from Iran and Middle East countries among European countries and severing its commercial interest through selling nuclear arms. Few years back, US had deciding to sell F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan and offering F-16s and F-18s to India, keeping in mind the growing tension between the two nations.
This gesture reveals that US, so called the world’s super power, is catering to its arms industry!
