The ambiguity over the independence of Kosovo is looming and so does the predicament over the US and Russian relations that are already in tatters because of US plans to deploy Missile Defense shield (MDS) in Europe.
Russia defies both US plans because the former would legitimize the demand for autonomy in many troubled regions e.g. Chechnya and latter as a threat to Russian security.
The rift seems to strengthen as the Polish President Lech Kaczynski, after a meeting with Bush yesterday affirmed that the MDS would be built irrespective of Russian revolt.
Well, the present developments i.e. N. Korea closing its nuclear reactor and Iran calling in IAEA experts thus putting an end to the nuclear standoff, then why MDS in Europe since the problems are solved now?
Ipso facto clearly state that there is no need for the MDS now, even if it is required, then why not to endorse Russian offer to share its Azerbaijan radar station?
Secondly, Why US is not considering another proposal of Putin to make a joint MDS in Russia. The reason is simple that US doesn’t want to share the facility with Russia because to cocoon Europe under MDS is especially intended to keep sharp vigil on Russian activities that Russia, being a sovereign nation, rightly defies.
The conflict between the two is leading the world to the dark ages of cold war era. The conflict has started the mad race for arms and Russia has threatened to target missiles towards European countries if US maneuvers his MDS plans.
US desire to downgrade Russia will undo the world. Both nations should abstain from old habits of insularity and falling apart while knowingly debarring the cordial relations to halt their own prosperity, stability and security.
Moreover, the Russian proposals to US on MDI should be adhered - if US is serious to thwart the grave situation and both should put aside the false claims and intentions to attain the position of superiority.
