The gloomy tale of violence-marred Sudan continues, as rebels don’t seem to lay down arms. The visit of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to bring ceasefire between the warring factions has not borne fruit.
Even as the UN Secretary General tried to become the beacon of peace in the conflict devastated Sudan, enemies of peace betraying the peace initiative attacked again, forcing casualties and taking the number of dead in this long-stretched civil war to more than 200,000. But, this time the Sudanese government is to blame for air raiding a Darfur town of innocent people.

Sudan has been in the grip of violence for years, often heralding an era of devastation bequeathed on the land by its rulers to which callous approach by international leadership has only meant more devastation, suffering and bloodshed. Not only this, the women of Darfur have been facing the heat as greedy eyes pounce on them, snatching their liberty, tormenting their inner self, molesting, raping and physically assaulting then in front of their men.
One of the poorest regions of the world, marred by natural fury, manmade global warming and its consequences drought, desertification, overpopulation and poverty, Sudan continues to carry the legacy of criminal record, atrocities and brutality against its own citizens, who have been prime targets in this ethnic conflict and been displaced and uprooted from their roots. Does the present battered life of Sudanese children justify their living in penury, poverty, hunger, malnutrition and disease?
Don’t they deserve a better life than this? Sudan needs air to breathe and Sudanese a life worth living.
