U.S. has finally hinted at reduction of troops in violence-marred Iraq. Can we think of peace restoring in the land of Saddam Hussein or violence intensifying after the U.S. pull out?
The U.S. invaded Iraq to bring peace to the sectarian violence-marred land. But, things have gone astray ever since and there has been neither a single signal of peace restoration nor any lessening of conflict and bloodshed. Moreover, the Taliban seems to be raising its head in the war-devastated land, giving airs to the sectarian conflict and aiding in violence. Rule of the law from the land seems elusive for a long time even when Saddam was alive and continues yet after his execution. The positioning and sacrifices of U.S. led NATO forces hasn’t helped either.

Years after Iraq started boiling in violence, bloodshed, murder, conflict and bombings, the casualty figures, including both U.S. led NATO troops and innocent Iraqis, have risen to lakhs signaling that the country has become hell for its citizens and a bad man’s heaven. Troop call back has since been making uproars amongst the citizens of the NATO countries, especially the UK and the U.S. So far, U.S. showed reluctance in doing so, but now a light appears in the darkness indicating that March next year will launch the beginning of troop reduction in Iraq.
Still, the long-term counter insurgency measures by the Bush regime in U.S. might curtail the curtailment of troops. Yet, the point to recall remains peace restoration in the land and for doing so, the local support gains utmost importance, who otherwise could be easily misled by the violent forces, particularly the Al Qaeda. Iraq must not become another Afghanistan must be remembered.
