The US and Russian standoff on the missile defense deployment is intensified with each passing day as the latest developments indicate that the war of words is in progress and the US is stubbornly resolute to overshadow the latter’s concern in his overweening drive to cocoon Europe under missile defense web.
The developments one after the other clearly reveal that neither of the two are going to shed their concerns while Russia showed some positive sign to ward off the conflict when it proposed to mutually deploying the missile defense in Azerbaijan which US seems reluctant about.
US have intensified the rift between EU and Russia for political gains in Europe as Russian influence would be a threat to US interests there and US meddling has increased conspicuously after the decline of Russia in 1992. US are instigating the Baltic republics and new members e.g. Poland against Russia whom US ensured EU membership three years ago and is providing them ample financial help to play a wider role in EU that their economic weight actually allows them to.
Furthermore, angered with the old NATO allies for their denial to sent additional troops to Afghanistan and Iraq, US started intruding in Eastern Europe with more US favoring countries who do not trust Western Europe to look after their security. They consider America as their defender. This is proven with Lithuanian offer to call in US to deploy MDI in its country. This will really help US to kill two birds with one stone. It will help US to make its own coterie nations who can serve US interest in Europe to outdo Russian influence and secondly will rein EU to become an independent player in foreign policy.
Russia has its own valid security concerns and Missile Defense in Czech and Poland is not the problem for Russia right now as it is capable enough to deal with it, however, there is certainly a threat to Russian security if it becomes a global system in a decade or so (possibilities can’t be denied).
US meddling in European affairs and its partial but still a dominating appearance is a whim against Russian influence in Europe, because Russia knows that more US will be there, less will be the Russian influence there.
This is a power game by US to dominate Europe through divide and rule policy. US insistence that the MDI is meant to encounter the danger from Iran is a sheer eyewash as first - Iran doesn’t have nuclear capability and it will most probably be extracting the nuclear expertise from N.Korea whose own capability to purify the technology to the extent to install a nuclear warhead on missile is in doubt. Secondly - US already has the protection against Korean offense in Alaska and California, so there is no need for MDI.
Therefore, the shield’s true focus is Russia rather than Iran. Russia rightly opposes the US strife, as U.S.’s step ahead in Europe is a step back for Russia.
