People’s Republic of China is ascending new heights in economic, military and diplomatic fields. But what about the genuine human liberty of freedom of speech and expression granted to people there. Trampled under dragon shoes, the liberty is infringed and media is dictated from behind the presidium of party monolith.
Let alone reports on the domestic happenings, even the international news also filtered and put to astute censorship of the Communist Party. Right from how to cover a story, what to write, how to read and also what not to divulge are determined not by the media experts but politicians driving the all imposing party. Red pen is always eager to put red marks on each and every item that holds significance for common man.
This gagging has bereft the Chinese from news of world affairs when the information revolution is sweeping the world. The journalists, native or foreigners, are impinged upon and tortured in the prison cells for their audacity to breach the iron curtain clad on individual liberty. Such kind of indentation, gagging, filtering has limited the domestic information revolution and China lagging behind in education and awareness.
Misdeeds of doctors, Hollywood movie reviews and death of Benazir are not news of that significance which can hold the Chinese government to ransom, but still the government intervened and indoctrinated the journalist on how o report on the matter. This is a sure violation of the fundamental media ethics. This is not a restriction rather total violation and annihilation of freedom of speech and expression. Is the Chinese government fearful of its own citizens about who it pompously declares its benign citizens?
