Fred Thompson might have won loads of laurels and fame for his role as a US attorney and character actor on TV and in films but the Republican candidate for the 2008 US Presidential election is certainly finding gathering support a tough job. Although he was anticipated to endear himself to the Republican followers in the United Stated with his innate charm and glamour, Mr. Thompson’s campaign has had to face reality check in the wake of Rudy Giuliani’s surge.
Mr. Giulani is a former New York mayor and the most crucial issue in his campaign has been the preaching of the tax cutting policy. Mr. Giulani has always been opposed to the increase of tax paid by the Americans and it is this principle that has allowed him to gain as much as 27% of the support of the Republican voters, according to latest polls.
Mr. Thompson might have began the campaign as late as September on a high but failing to address any vital issue currently enshrouding the American domestic scenario at the moment has seen his popularity drop to just 19%.
Many see the ultimate Republican candidate to run for next year’s Presidential candidate losing to the most widely supported Democrat Hillary Clinton. Wife of the former US President Bill Clinton, Mrs. Clinton is fast gaining momentum and support for her bid to dislodge Mr. George W Bush from the hot seat. She now leads her closest Democrat competitor Barack Obama by 46% to 23%.
