A Libyan court imposed death sentence on five Bulgarian nurses and one Palestinian doctor for infecting hundreds of Libyan children. The case was into spotlight since 1999, during which, 52 out of 426 children died suffering from AIDS.

The report states that the accused intentionally induced the HIV virus in over 400 children infecting them with that deadly life threatening disease.

The accused were sentenced to death in 2004, but the Supreme Court quashed the decision after several protests being made by the Bulgarian people.

The defendants say that they are being made scapegoats for the concerned case, whereas the HIV virus was present in the Beghazi town before the nurse started working there in the hospital. They state the environment in the hospital is unhygienic which can be the cause for the concern.

The medics are now planning to appeal against the new verdict, which is expected to be the final one allowed in the Libyan Law.

The medics protested that the statements made by them were obtained by torturing them. Luc Montagnier — the French doctor who was a co-discoverer of HIV – testified in the first trial that the deadly virus was active in the hospital before the Bulgarian nurses began their contracts there in 1998.

Subhy Abdullah, whose seven-year-old daughter died of Aids, said, ‘Justice has been done. They should be executed quickly’.

The United States and Europe also protested against the decision, favoring the defendants and pressing on the unhygienic condition of the hospital.

The issue is too real that no one would think against the decision of the Libyan court. People are there to sympathize the accused , but if one looks to the other side of the fact, it is very hard to forgive them. The defendants in the concerned case should not be given any sort of liberty. If there is any other punishment worse than the given now for spreading HIV virus, the same should be imposed to these mass murderers of innocent children.
