the six fanatics who aimed to kill a british soldier

The picture above shows the faces of six Islamic radical extremists - Mohammad Irfan, Hamid Elasmar, Amjad Mahmood, Zahoor Iqbal, Parviz Khan and Basiru Gassama. These individuals belonged to a Birmingham-based terrorist cell that planned to carry out one of the most daring and ghastly terror plots ever experienced by the United Kingdom. In order to spread panic among the British armed forces and the general public, the gang planned to kidnap a British Muslim soldier and then televise his ghastly murder while beheading him like ‘a pig’.

Religious extremism inside Britain is on the rise and it is certainly concerning the government. But the Birmingham plot provides gives a new turn to the whole home-grown terror theory. The very revelation that a British Muslim soldier was the target in the plot puts the Muslim society across the United Kingdom in a spot of bother. The country is already reeling under the threat of home-grown terror groups which is constantly dividing the Muslims and the rest of the British society. Now it seems moderate British Muslims are being targeted for serving London. This is a clear way of spreading panic among the British Muslims which would enable the fundamentalists to recruit young boys and girls to launch terror attacks in British and European soils. According to analysts, Britons have become used to the fact that young British Muslims are soft targets for Al-Qaeda like terror outfits but what shocked many in the country is the notion of a British soldier being killed in British soil.

The Gordon Brown-led Labour government must address the concern immediately to reduce the growing gap between Muslims and non-Muslims in the Isles. If we look at the profile of the terrorists captured over the last few years, there is a clear economic angle to the grave situation. Most of the guilty parties are unemployed and are soft targets for Islamic extremists. Pakistan is the ideal place where these people have training and then they are either sent to Afghanistan to fight the NATO forces or find hiding places inside UK to launch attacks against innocent civilians. Undoubtedly one fact comes to light in this analysis is that the Muslim communities are still deprived when it comes to economic and social recognition in the home nations of England, Wales and Scotland. Apart from the terror threats, Britain acts as a shipment country for these dreaded terrorists who manage to smuggle explosives to destinations such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan to kill British and other European soldiers.
