Chinese President Hu Jintao might have been the leader of his nation for almost four years but so far he didn’t have absolute control over the country. But he is likely to do this just as early as this Sunday, should everything goes according to plans. China’s Communist Party is meeting this week in Beijing to plan out policies that would decide how the Communist nation functions in the next five years. And one of the key issues to be discussed in the meeting would be the crucial military appointment.
President Hu Jintao still enjoys massive support in Chinese politics and in his reign as the nation’s leader, China has progressed in the military arena in leaps and bound. Chine might still be under par in terms of weapon production and possession when compared to the US and Europe but it is fast getting modernized, and that is reflected in the healthy and unprecedented growth of the nation’s capital Beijing in the last three years.
China’s military budget now stands at $45 billion a year and with President Hu Jintao to remain in power for five more years at least, the bar could be raised. So much so, that the US is quite apprehensive of the danger that China poses to its claim of having the best economy in the world.
But the Chinese president has matters other than the People’s Liberation Army to consider. China has the largest population in the world and the pollution level is rapidly increasing. Also, there’s the Taiwan matter to consider and the solution on how to persuade Taiwan to accept Chinese control is yet to be deciphered. Next summer, China is to hold the Olympics and the Communist party in China is looking forward to take that as an initiative to promote its magnanimous growth in the last few years to the world.
