Mediators for Colambia hostage release
Rebels demand for a safe heaven in Cali:

Twelve lawmakers are among the sixty politicians, soldiers, policemen, including three American defense contractors who were held hostage by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the oldest and best guerrilla movement in Latin America. Revolutionary Armed Forces are demanding a 310-square-mile safe haven near Cali to conduct talks for the exchange of hostages for the hundreds of its jailed rebels. The president did not accept the prolonged demand for a safe haven. However, mediators have urged the president to stop military action to make the negotiations possible.

Need for a mutually accepted agreement:

The denouement is unlikely to reach soon. The government is truculent on its stand and does not want to succumb to the rebel pressure for granting them the land that they are demanding near Cali, Colombia’s third largest city. There is a need to reach at mutually accepted solution for the restoration of the hostages.
